The Secrets of the Soul is the new CD composed by Maurizio Colonna, one of the most original guitarists and composers of our time. His work places itself in the so called area of “contemporary classics”, belonging to a stylistic dimension where the sound of the piano is often predominant.
Colonna is a forerunner of this contemporary mode, having in the past composed similar original fusions.
All compositions on the CD, for solo guitar, are published in a music score album by Carisch-Machiavelli.
In all 13 compositions the Guitar of Maurizio Colonna is always a soloist, accompanied by other instruments, on two occasions supported by a second guitar (overdub by the same Colonna); the overall result is an ensemble of acoustic and electronic sounds which define its character.
The artistic project is the result of a long period of creative research and recording sessions aiming to blend the sound of classic guitar in a multiform polyphonic world which we could define as neo-symphonic.
The 13 “secrets”, that Maurizio Colonna reveals to us, recall memories, moments of his life and natural spaces. They tell the story of someone who never stops surprising himself.
We gather from his music an attempt to explain the details of our daily life in its sharing of feelings and intentions told spontaneously through the simple melodies and through small breaks of improvisations which emerge between the tracks.
In The Secrets of the Soul the concept of contemporary does not exclude the curiosity towards present and past music experiences in favour of creative synthesis which is still open the possibility of reinventing itself. Aiming to a large audience, not only to a guitarist world, the secrets have the ambition to broaden your minds and make you reflect on the beauty of the music, not only on the indisputable virtuosity of the interpreter.

The Secrets Of The Soul è la nuova opera discografica di Maurizio Colonna, uno dei più rappresentativi e originali chitarristi-compositori del nostro tempo.
L’opera si colloca nell’area della cosiddetta “classica contemporanea”, entrando in una dimensione stilistica attualmente caratterizzata soprattutto dalla presenza del suono pianistico.
Colonna è stato un precursore di questa “contemporaneità”, creando già in passato delle originali fusion.
Tutte le musiche del cd, nella versione per chitarra sola, sono pubblicate in un album di spartiti edito da Carisch – Machiavelli.
Nelle tredici composizioni la chitarra di Maurizio Colonna è sempre solista, accompagnata da altri strumenti, in due episodi supportata da una seconda chitarra (suonata in sovraincisione dallo stesso Colonna); il tutto è caratterizzato dalla compresenza di sonorità acustiche ed elettroniche, che ne definiscono il carattere timbrico.
Il progetto artistico è il risultato di un lungo periodo di ricerca creativa e di sessioni di registrazione in cui è emersa l’esigenza di inserire la chitarra classica dentro un mondo polifonico multiforme, che si potrebbe definire “neosinfonico”, ricco di sonorità variegate e a volte poco considerate.
I tredici “Segreti” che Maurizio Colonna ci svela evocano ricordi sparsi nella sua memoria, momenti di vita, spazi naturali, raccontati con la gioia di chi non finisce mai di stupirsi.
Si coglie, nella sua musica, l’esigenza di cercare risposte nel “fare” quotidiano, nella condivisione di intenzioni e sentimenti, raccontati in modo spontaneo da melodie volutamente semplici, e anche dai brevi spazi di improvvisazione che emergono, a volte, tra le parti.
In The Secrets Of The Soul il concetto di “contemporaneo” non esclude la curiosità nei confronti di qualsiasi esperienza compositiva del presente e del passato, a favore di una sintesi creativa e di un linguaggio musicale che hanno voglia di reinventarsi ancora.
Indirizzati ad un pubblico ampio, non solo legato al mondo della chitarra, i “Secrets” hanno l’ambizione di favorire riflessioni che vanno oltre lo stupore per il virtuosismo strumentale, che pure emerge indiscutibile.
